    POAs

appaloosa colored mount for youthWhat is a POA (Pony of the Americas)? A POA is an appaloosa colored mount for youth, ranging from 46" to 56" (or 14 hands), specifically bred for youth riders. A true POA is not paint, pinto, or just any "colored" pony--a common misconception. POAs have been specifically bred over the years to make fabulous all-around youth horses, typically showing all day from halter to rail events to jumping to barrel racing on the same pony.

Current POA bloodlines include top AQHA lines such as Two Eyed Jack, Zippo Pine Bar, Smart Little Lena...and more. These days, 19/over adult trainer classes and pointed classes are also popular--allowing the whole family to participate.

Cash's Tough Guy

We are thrilled to welcome POA show pony gelding deluxe "Cash" to the family. At twenty years young, he's in prime shape and has made a career of starting beginners in the show ring; aside from jumping and cart he has points in all English, all western, and most gymkhana events. This gelding is a mid-size POA, 54 1/2", and his stocky build makes him fun to ride for us adults as well. He moves like a dream and has a heart of gold. Watch for Cash and Bailey in 9-12 POA competition and 4H shows this summer, and Cash and Chancey Rose (age 5) in the leadline events.

Santee Hombre

We are super excited about this little buckskin guy. He has some white spots (or a blanket?) hiding under the winter fuzz, and should mature darker and good sized like his daddy...and very stocky... at about 55-56". He is bred very similar to our AQHA horses...being Two Eyed Jack bred on the bottom for lots of speed, muscle and "cow", combined with a top POA sire from Gene Carr's program (POA Hall of Famer and POA Diamond Premier Breeder--one of only six people to achieve this honor in the breed's history). The combination of speed, cow, and performance POA should make this a tough one to beat. Watch for him in halter, in-hand trail, lunge line and 19&over in a couple years with Doreen. Should be a fantastic future mount for Bailey and Chancey, from moving cows to POA speed and rail events.

Santee Ms Scooter

We are also thrilled to have another from Gene's program; this should be a world beating filly in the POA rail events as both sides of the family tree have been! Plus, you can't beat black with a blanket for eye-catching. This is one pretty girl who is downright elegant. Watch for her in halter, in-hand trail, lunge line and eventually 19 & over training classes with Doreen. Scooter should make a top show pony for both Bailey and Chancey down the road a little bit, and will also learn the "ropes" around cattle at our place and have her shot at being a true all-around mare. Should mature a nice good size of 55-56".
